My client operates a fleet of around 450 vehicles which are used on a 24 hour basis - 365 days per year. This is a key role within the organisation as the post holder will not only have to ensure that vehicles are maintained in accordance with legislation, but that the right vehicles, are at the right location, at the right time. Alongside this there needs to savings identified.

The post holder will have experience of managing complex teams in a demanding environment as well as being able to communicate in a manner which is understood at all levels of the organisation including liaison with the strategic leaders.

*Lead and develop a small but critical team of staff, ensuring high standards of leadership and performance management throughout the organisational structure, providing regular, constructive and timely performance feedback; training and succession planning to ensure short and long-term performance
*Develop and implement agreed operational business plans, objectives, budgets and scorecard targets in line with Strategic Business Plans
*Establish and promote a 'high performance' culture of accountability, which will enable the department to meet its strategic performance objectives, ensuring employees' performance targets are linked to the business strategy
*Develop key performance indicators, forecasting present and future resourcing requirement
*Drive continuous improvement in both operational and financial performance; maximise availability and effective deployment of vehicles
*Proactively review vehicle allocation and usage to ensure that staff have access to the right vehicles at the right locations

*Strong experience of operating in a management role with similar responsibilities
*Highly developed effective communications skills in both written and spoken form to varied and diverse internal and external audiences
*Significant experience of leading a large team in an operational environment and leading and motivating a geographically dispersed the workforce
*Excellent people leadership skills, able to build trust, respect, act with integrity and openness, and motivate a diverse team whilst taking ownership and responsibility
*Proven record of mentoring / coaching to ensure empowerment of staff and develop options for career progression of subordinate staff
*Knowledge of relevant road traffic, employment and health and safety legislation
*Budget management experience
*Experience of working within a unionised environment
